DrCoool Air Conditioning

Air Conditioner Cleaning

Professional split system and ducted air conditioning cleaning across Sydney.

Air Conditioner Cleaning

An air conditioner that hasn't been cleaned properly doesn't just run less efficiently — it circulates whatever has built up inside the unit through the air in your home. Dust, mould spores, and bacteria can accumulate on indoor coils and in the drain tray, particularly in Sydney's humid conditions.

Dr.coool offers air conditioner cleaning for split systems across Greater Sydney. Our cleaning service goes beyond the basic filter rinse: we clean the indoor coil, the fan barrel, the drain tray, and the housing — the parts that occupants typically can't reach or safely clean themselves.

A clean system runs more efficiently, produces better air quality, and lasts longer. If your unit has a musty smell when it starts up, produces visible dust from the vents, or has visibly dirty coils, it's due for a proper clean.

What Affects the AirCon Cleaning Cost

Drain line condition.

If the drain line is blocked — a common issue in humid conditions that leads to water leaking from the indoor unit — clearing it is typically included in the cleaning scope. A severely blocked line may require additional work.

Combined with maintenance.

Cleaning and maintenance are often booked together. Combining them in one visit is more cost-effective than separate visits and ensures both the operational checks and the physical clean are completed together.

Level of buildup.

A unit that's been cleaned recently and regularly takes less time than one that hasn't been serviced in several years. Heavy mould or scale buildup on the coil requires additional cleaning time and appropriate agents. We assess this based on photos when you submit your enquiry.

Unit type and size.

Standard wall-mounted split systems (indoor unit) are the most common cleaning request and are quoted per unit. Ceiling cassette or floor-mounted units have different configurations and are quoted accordingly.

Number of units.

Multiple units on the same visit are quoted at a combined rate.

Suitable Property Types

Why Choose DrCoool

Full indoor unit clean, not just the filter.

We clean the coil, fan barrel, drain tray, and housing — not just the pull-out filter. The coil and fan barrel are where the significant buildup occurs, and they require proper tools and technique to clean safely without damaging the unit.

Appropriate cleaning agents.

We use cleaning agents that are safe for air conditioner components and effective against mould and biofilm buildup.

No unnecessary upsell.

If your unit is clean and doesn't need deep cleaning, we'll tell you. If it has a fault that cleaning alone won't fix, we'll explain what the actual issue is.

Photo-based booking.

Send a photo of your unit when requesting a clean — particularly the filter and any visible coil condition — so we can give you an accurate quote and arrive prepared.

Can be combined with maintenance.

Book cleaning and a maintenance check together for a complete service in one visit.

AirCon Brands We Work With

We clean split systems from all major brands: Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Kelvinator, and others. Cleaning technique and process are largely consistent across brands for standard wall-mounted indoor units.

For less common brands or older models with unusual configurations, let us know the model when booking.

FAQs

How often should I get my aircon cleaned professionally?

For a split system in regular daily use in a Sydney home, a professional clean every 12–18 months is a reasonable interval alongside regular occupant filter cleaning. Homes with pets, smokers, or high dust levels benefit from more frequent cleaning. Rental properties are often cleaned between tenancies regardless of interval.

What's the difference between filter cleaning and a full clean?

Filter cleaning — rinsing the pull-out filter — is something occupants can and should do every 4–8 weeks during heavy use periods. It removes the surface dust layer but doesn't reach the indoor coil, fan barrel, or drain components. A professional clean addresses the parts of the unit that aren't accessible for DIY cleaning and where the more significant buildup occurs.

My unit smells musty when it turns on — is that a cleaning issue?

Almost always yes. A musty or stale smell on startup is typically caused by mould or bacterial growth on the indoor coil or in the drain tray — areas that stay damp and are in the path of the airflow. A full indoor unit clean will resolve this in most cases. If the smell persists after cleaning, there may be a drain blockage or other issue that warrants a maintenance assessment.

Can I clean the coil myself?

The pull-out filter is designed to be cleaned by the occupant. The indoor coil is not — it's a delicate aluminium fin array that can be damaged by incorrect tools or cleaning agents, and it's inside the unit rather than accessible from the front. Attempting to clean the coil without the right equipment and products risks fin damage, water ingress into the unit, or coil corrosion. For anything beyond filter cleaning, professional service is the right approach.
